The fraLine advisory board

In order to encourage and establish a direct and long-term flow of information between the schools in Frankfurt and fraLine, the fraLine advisory board was founded in 2002. For five years the board met three to four times every year and had an essential share in the conceptual development of the project and the service quality improvement in Frankfurt schools.

foto_beirat_4_11Mai17During the last six years of the pilot project several set targets could be achieved. Thus, all Frankfurt schools have been equipped with new computers  (10:1 student to PC ratio) and are now provided with a city-owned broadband internet connection. Simultaneously, the equipment inventory, software and network of the schools as well as the overall application area of school-IT have been considerably enhanced.

This current progress, however, has raised new questions and the incorporation of new media in education has not yet achieved its ends. For IT technology to become a natural instrument in schools new technical, organizational and pedagogical challenges have to be mastered.

Additionally, teachers are confronted with new media-didactical and legal issues. As a consequence our previous “school-centred board” has changed to an interdisciplinary and cross-organizational platform, in order to define our project´s position to varying issues and tasks.

foto_beirat_1_08Apr10Organization: First and foremost, the advisory board is responsible for advising and supporting fraLine. The voluntary members seek to advance and improve the project and constitute an interdisciplinary, cross-organizational platform for discussing trend-setting issues in the field of information technology and media use in
schools. Board members meet once a year to discuss current topics as well as the fraLine Annual Statement. Minutes are taken at every meeting and distributed to every member.

The direct exchange of information and experience with and between state, municipal, economy, academic and school representatives in Frankfurt enourages the project´s activities. It allows for a quick recognition of varying demand and convenient mentoring of  further IT development in schools.
