What we offer – the fraLine service portfolio

fraLine is a joint project between the municipal education authority of the city of Frankfurt am Main and the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt.


The fraLine service addresses only those schools in Frankfurt that fall under the supervision of the municipal education authority. Since the project is financed by the city of Frankfurt the service can be offered free of charge.

Our service portfolio in detail: Services we cannot provide:

 

Hardware

• Advisory services and trouble shooting (by telephone and onsite) relating to computer launches, network and peripheral equipment;

• On-site-support with hardware and software problems;

• Integration of new hardware components and exchange of defective parts (extended problems in cooperation with the C@riteam of the Frankfurt Caritas Association; debitable to the school budget;

 

Software

• Advisory services and trouble shooting (by telephone and onsite) relating to the installation and configuration of  operation systems and user programs (for computers used in class);

• Advisory services and support (onsite) concerning software updates (if possible during school holidays for efficient personell scheduling and to avoid downtime of computers during class);

 

Networks/Internet

• Advisory services and support relating to network installations, internet access as well as assistance with eMail, ftp or other services;

• Central support relating to problems with external network providers (the Department of Information and Communicational Technology in Frankfurt (Amt 16) and the German Telekom);

• Advisory services and support relating to the selection and implementation of security arrangements (e.g. Hardware protection or protector card, administration of user privileges, virus scanner) and data recovery (backup, images, etc.);

• Central point of contact for questions about the “pedacogical network” (for schools belonging to the local school network; in close cooperation with the local education authority and the Department for Information and Communication Technology);

 

Consulting

• Application advice (user programs and special school software);

• Technical consulting regarding the acquisition of computer and network components as well as spare parts;

• Advisory services relating to equipment and acquisition of software, licences, donated PCs etc. (in cooperation with the municipal education authority);

• Advisory services for the municipal education authority and the Department for Information and Communication Technology (Amt 16) with regard to a strategic IT-development at schools;

 

Guided Self-Help

• Detailed information on our homepage: frequently-asked-questions (faq) for general and school-related IT-solutions and a glossary; in the glossary you can also find all abreviations used in the fraDesk; our glossary and faq are available only in German;

 

• Support of administration PCs (since fall 2008);

• Installation and original equipment of computer rooms; this should as a rule be provided by the supplying IT-company; support by fraLine for acceptance tests or instruction of the teaching staff is possible in cooperation with the municipal education authority;

• Constructional arrangements, e.g. installation of cables (electricity, data net etc.);

• Workings at the central network infrastructure of the municipal network. (Our hotline accepts requests, finds the responsible contact, transfers the request and maintains contact between it and the school;

• Spare parts supply;

• Acquisition of licensed software;

• Acquisition of hardware;

• Support for components of the so-called “free network” of those schools pertaining to the municipal network;

• Repairing of peripheral equipment, foto copiers, telephones and fax machines;

• Operation support for school planning and administration software (LuSD/Gelos and Lupo);

• Support of schools that are not maintained by the local school authority of Frankfurt am Main;
